Itinerary of Everest Base Camp Trekking

Day 1:  Kathmandu - Lukla to Phakding (approximately 3 hours) – We fly 35 min. from Kathmandu to Lukla. We prepare for trek in Lukla (2800m.) From Lukla the trail descends gently to the Chheplung. That is Sherpa village, down is flowing Dudh Koshi (meaning:Milky River). We find the lots of lodges on the way. There is health post and apple project in Chheplung. Again trail descends to the suspension bridge. We cross another river, named Thado Koshi, and trail accents. We cross the Ghat village, many Buddhist Chorten, Mani, flags, Monastery, Buddhist script printed on the stone, etc. In Phakding (2650m.) There are many lodges and tea shops, shops. Today we have to walk 3 hours from Lukla to Phakding.

Day 2:  Phakding to Namche (approximately 6 hours) –Today is a little difficult day from Phakding to Namche (3440m.). We have to climb 800 meters. First half way we have to fallow the Dudh Koshi River. We have to cross 5 times suspension bridge over the Dodhkoshi River. We can see Thamserku peak from Monjo. At the end of Monjo, there is Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate. You must register there, get a ticket. We walk further little down. We get last village (Jorsalle) to Namche Bazaar, so we take lunch there. From Jorsalle, we have to walk an hour for last bridge and starts tough trail through the forest. If the weather is clear to north side we can see Mt. Everest and Lhotse-Sar from Top Danda (below Namche). Namche Bazaar is the biggest village of this region. There are many big lodges and hotels, bakery cafe, book shop, trekking shop, souvenir shop, internet, communication, post office, laundry service, massage center, airline sales agent, pony and yak service etc. There is Monastery, Museum, National Park Headquarter, Police office, Army post, Commercial Bank, Helipad.  

Day 3: Namche (acclimatization day) –  Acclimatization is important before proceeding higher. So almost all trekkers make extra day in Namche. You may not feel boring, rather we enjoy there are many places to go like Thame, Khunde, Syangboche, Khumjung. Khumjung is nice village. Syangboche is popular for Mountain View, there is 4 star hotel. We can walk somewhere 3-4 hours and return back to Namche. It is assumed that go high and sleep in down for acclimatization. 


Day 4: Namche to Tengboche (approximately 5 hours) – There is straight trail an hour to Sanasa village and trail turns down another an hour to Dudh Koshi River. We find some tea shop and lodges on the way. We have to cross that river by suspension bridge, that place called Phungi Thanga. And then more 2 hours for Tengboche. We find big pine and rhododendron trees. Tengboche is beautiful place, with famous Monastry and good Mountain View. There are 5 lodges. Some time we do not find accommodation during the main trekking season, if so, we have to walk furthermore 30 min. down to Dibuche.

Day 5: Tyangboche to Dingboche (approximately 5 hours) - The way is not so difficult and longer. We have to cross the Imja River and way is slightly up to Pangboche and than Somare village. This area is like alpine meadows above the tree line. Above the Somare there is two way, left way is to Pheriche and right one is to Dingboche. Dingboche is big village, also there land is cultivated. It takes 4 hours from Tengboche to Dingboshe.

Day 6: Dingboche (acclimatization day) - Trek to Chhukung and Island peak base camp (5100m.) or Chhukung ri and return back to Dingboche. 

Day 7: Dingboche to Lobuche (approximately 4 and half hours) –  We walk 2.30 hours from Dingboche to Thughla. Trail is slightly up. From Thughla the trail is steep up for an hour and another an hour straight to Lobuche. 

Day 8: Lobuche to Gorakshep  (approximately 3 hours) - It takes 3 hours from Lobuche to Gorakshep. There are not any lodge, tea shop on the way. There are 4 lodges in Gorakshep. We take lunch there and we trek to Everest base camp or Kalapathar, and return back to Gorakshep. We stay overnight there. Altogether we have to walk approximately 9 hours.

Day 9: Gorakshep – Kalapoathar – Pheriche  (approximately 8 hours) - Early in the morning we go to Kalapathar for view. Now our trek descents to Lobuche and down to Pheriche.

Day 10: Pheriche to Tengboche – 3.30 hours


Day 11: Tengboche to Namche – 3.30 hours


Day 12: Namche to Lukla – 6 hours


Day 13: We fly from Lukla to Kathmandu
